The Defra funded report “Windows: Environmental Impacts and Initiatives”, known as the Windows Roadmap, has now been published.
The evidence-based report is the first step to providing industry best practice on sustainability. The report establishes that wood, PVC and aluminium frames all have a role in the future of windows – and a part to play in creating sustainable buildings.
The study was produced collaboratively by Government and industry representatives, including BWF, and is one of many actions to help deliver the Governments ‘Strategy for Sustainable Construction’.
The next step is for both Government and industry organisations involved to agree a voluntary action plan for tackling some of the areas highlighted in the report. At present, BWF is finalising and prioritising a detailed action plan, some of which is already linked to the BWF Wood Waste Resource Efficiency Project.
