My blogpost yesterday coincided with Treasury questions in the House of Commons. Several Conservative MPs pressed Liam Byrne further on his pledge that VAT would not rise and there would be no new tax increases in the Budget, no doubt enthused by his feisty exchanges with Ken Clarke on the Today programme earlier in the morning. You can read the Hansard reports of Question Time here. Liam Byrne seems to have avoided repeating the specific commitment. Hmmmm.
