Hotel operators found guilty after trial

The former owners of The Connaught Hotel in Wolverhampton have been found guilty of 11 breaches of fire safety legislation after a jury trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

The court heard that detectors had been covered over with plastic bags, escape routes blocked with items such as a wardrobe and an ironing board, and some doors had no self-closing mechanisms. Fire service inspectors uncovered the breaches after fire broke out in October 2007.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 13th 2012
