Elderly residents left homeless after fire at care homeMore than 30 elderly residents of an East Sussex Care Home were led to safety after a major fire in the 6-storey building in St Leonards-on-Sea on Sunday (28th July).

East Sussex Council has since temporarily rehoused 22 of the residents from Hyde Housing Association’s care home Marlborough House in Warrior Square, St Leonards.

Three people were taken to hospital where two people remained, although their condition is not thought to be life-threatening, and 12 went to stay with family and friends.

At the height of the fire, 55 firefighters tackled the blaze, using 11 pumps and three aerial ladder platforms.
Neighbouring properties were also evacuated and residents led to safety.
