Fire doors at 11 blocks of council flats in Stoke-on-Trent do not meet fire safety regulations, a report released by the city council has found.

Contractor’s Fire Doors DO NOT meet fire safety regs!It listed problems with up to 66 of the doors inspected, which have been installed within the past 18 months.
The council said the contractor, Kier* Stoke, would replace the doors free of charge as soon as possible. Mohammed Pervez, city council leader, said “many more fire doors in council-owned properties could be faulty” adding that residents raised concerns about the doors over a year ago.

The report, from March of this year, said foyer doors in Forest, Boundary, Southern, Brookfield, Robinson, Penkhull and Dibden Courts did not meet the required fire resistance standard of 30 minutes.
It also listed various technical problems with the doors, stating many of them do not open and close properly.

BWF-CERTIFIRE has continued to raise concerns over contractors changing fire door specifications throughout 2013 in its ‘Stick to the Spec” campaign.
